general synoptic situation:

A high 1042 over southern Norway weakens slightly. A ridge to 

Lithuania moves southwards and extends towards Romania. Another 

high 1036 close north-west of the Hebrides moves to the northern 

North Sea. A low 1001 over the Tyrrhenian Sea moves slightly 

westwards and weakens. A secondary low 1012 forms in the southern

Bay of Biscay on Thursday evening.
