general synoptic situation

<br> The mistral is dominant in the Gulf of Lion and the 

areas to the south and southwest of it. This is causing 

storm and hurricane force gusts. During the next days, the 

wind field will shift towards the Balearic Islands and 

Palos. Wave heights today are around 8 m, decreasing to 4 

m in the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Strait of Sicily. 

Tomorrow, waves of 4 to 5 m will prevail in the Gulf of 

Lions; on Sunday, the waves will spread towards the 

Balearic Islands, reaching local heights of 6 m. 

Gale-force winds from the north to west are possible in 

the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea at times today and 

tomorrow. Gale-force winds from southwesterly to westerly 

and later north-westerly directions are also expected in 

the Aegean Sea and the eastern Mediterranean over the 

coming days. Showers and heavy thunderstorms are expected 

in places, particularly in the central and eastern 

Mediterranean. On Sunday, thunderstorms cannot be ruled 

out in the western Mediterranean either. Please pay
